Born in the Island of Brava, Cabo Verde on January 9, 1964, Osvaldo Rosa Monteiro “Vava or Captain Ozzy” immigrated to the US in 1981. He served in the US Navy. He was a real estate broker for many years and helped many people accomplish their home ownership dream. He worked as a Captain at the Steam Ship Authority. Vava enjoyed sailing, soccer and he loved to read.

Vava is survived by his wife Soraia Monteiro, children Kevin Monteiro, Andrea Monteiro and Keeshea Pina, father, Manuel Monteiro and his siblings, Carmen & Carlos Monteiro, Cesarina & Jose Elias, Ivonilde Monteiro, Carlos & Katy Monteiro and Roberto Monteiro. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Vava will be forever in our memories. Today, he is in the embrace of his mother, Maria Helena Monteiro.

May the sun be on your face, and the wind on your back, may you enjoy following seas as you make your final sail towards heaven.

Relative and friends are invited to attend calling hours Monday, February 28th in the Keefe Funeral Home 5 Higginson Ave., Lincoln, RI from 4:00pm - 8:00pm with a service starting at 7:00pm. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 1st at 9:00am in the Keefe Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rumford Cemetery, Rumford, RI.
